La Traccia Bianca (“White Tracksâ€) snowshoe race will be held for the second time at Alpe Devero (VB) on 26th February 2006. Organised by the Pallanza and Verbano branches of the Alpine Club, it’s the high point of the snowshoeing season in the Lepontine Alps.
The organisers were pleased with last year’s contest, which was something of a trial run, confirming the suspicion that snowshoers are far more numerous than might be thought. The race this year will once again be open to everybody. All you have to do is complete the entry form and turn up at 8 a.m. on 26 February at the “Piana†of Alpe Devero. The start will be at 10.30.
You can enter right up to the last moment; the first closing date is Friday 24 February 2006, but you can still enter on the spot on the Saturday (25.02.06) or the Sunday of the contest. The route is over 8 km in the Severo Nature Park, with a difference in height of 250 metres. This year again the route will include the spectacular crossing of the frozen lake of Codelago.
Accompanying attractions include mulled wine to welcome the participants, a contest pack with local gastronomic specialities for the first 500 entries, prizes for the winners, and the chance of a fortnight’s trek in Argentina for one of the finishers (prize draw).
